The design starts from the city perspective, by analysis on the scale of the city. After masses of research, city’s context and human behavior are unfolded. Finally, under the support of the research results, design a sport and culture center which can match the behavior of urban residents and bring back the city public space to the public.
Monumentally Anti-monumental
The government plan to construct a sport and culture center with a big volume. Rossi said that the two main permanences in the city are housing and monuments. So as the volume is giant, how to create a ‘monument’ which not just marks the place like a needle but absorb people like a globe? This is the paradox of my design. And I conceive of ‘monument’ as a kind of urban open space.
Rossi meets Data in 21 century
‘The city itself is the collective memory of its people, and like memory it is associated with objects and places. The city is the locus of the collective memory’ -The Architecture of the City.
I believe that what really matters in the city is the configuration among all those single objects. In the future, the architectural type can be interpreted somehow.
